Baltimore Washington International Airport Transfers

When arriving at BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport please remember to collect all luggage from the Baggage Claim area before proceeding to exit to landside and your chosen transfer option. At BWI there are a few options available for transfer depending on where your destination is located. Some of the options are rental cars, buses, trains and taxis.

Transfers at BWI Marshall Airport

Rental Cars – The rental car companies at Washington Baltimore Airport are housed in the car rental facilities located at Stoney Run Road and New Ridge Road. Free shuttles operate between the airport’s terminal and the rental car facility approximately every 10 minutes. The free shuttle departs from the lower level of the terminal and the ride to the rental car facility takes around 10 minutes.

When returning a rented vehicle it is easy to follow the signage to the rental car facility and the shuttle will transfer travelers to the terminal after the return is taken care of.

Buses – MTA offers bus services at Washington Baltimore Airport via #75 and #107 and also via the Commuter Bus 201. These bus routes go to different locations in the surrounding area.

Taxis – BWI Airport Taxi provides the taxi service available from the airport, but not to the airport. Taxi ranks are located outside the Baggage Claim area on the lower level of the airport, near doors 5 and 13. The journey to central Baltimore cost around $35 and will take around 15-20 minutes depending on the traffic and exact location of the destination.

Trains – MTA Light Rail has a train station located right outside Concourse E on the lower level of the terminal. Light rail service is available from around 5 AM until around 12.30 AM on weekdays and Saturdays and from approximately 10.30 AM until approximately 8.30 PM on Sundays and Holidays.

Additionally free shuttles are provided to transfer from or to the airport and the MARC/Amtrak Train Station approximately every 10 minutes throughout the day except for between 1 AM and 5 AM when they depart every 25 minutes or so in both directions. Hotel Shuttles – Hotels in the surrounding area often offer a shuttle service for transfer between the hotel and the airport, these are arranged through the hotel. Shuttles pick up in designated zones outside the terminal on the Arrivals level. The hotel will specify which zone. Some are the courtesy of the hotels while others are at an additional fee.

Rental Car and Train Shuttles – Courtesy shuttles, meaning they are free, operate between the airport’s terminal and the rental car facility as well as between the airport and the MARC/Amtrak Train Station located nearby. These run 24/7 with a frequency of approximately every 10 minutes. During nights, 1 AM- 5 AM, the frequency is slowed down to every 25 minutes for the MARC/Amtrak shuttle.

Ride Shares – Ride share transfers are pre-arranged through the company’s smartphone application or their website. A confirmation for the exact pick-up location will be provided. Make sure the driver is the one that is there to pick you up.
